This is our final update for our Silver project. Over the year, we have grown in our musical ability and our speaking and performance skills. It was hard at first, realizing how we had to intertwine our personal instrument's sounds, two being higher and one being lower. We had to learn to adapt to our own musical needs and needs of the others in our group. We each had to use our skills to work around problems, taking extra time to solve them and get in harmony. We also had to adapt to the senior's musical tastes, learning what genres they preferred and songs similar to ones they enjoyed. The pressure to find the right type of music was very high, making us feel overwhelmed at times. It was sometimes a challenge to find good music with enough time to learn it. It was especially hard for us, being an uncommon trio of violin, viola, and cello. Most trios are two violins and a cello, so we had limited options available to us. Our biggest difficulty was our schedules being full and clashing with other group member's. Near the middle of our project we were able to find less and less music, literally scouring the internet for hours to find a single piece. Due to family, school, and one medical emergency, we had little time to really perfect our music for some performances, having to reschedule or cancel for another date to give us more opportunity for practice. Even with all the difficulties that came with such an important project, we still had fun performing for the seniors together, and growing as a musical group.
This May at Samaritan Bethany, we did our last performance for the wonderful residents there. We took on four rather long songs, a challenge which we were ready to handle after months of working together as a group to improve our performance skills. The song we started with was Gravity Falls Theme by Disney, then we played Waterfall by Toby Fox, followed by Rondeau by J.J Mouret, and the last song we did was Fiddles on Fire by Mark Williams. The residents really seemed to enjoy Fiddles on Fire, some commented that it was the best song that we had played. We decided to take it on as a bit of a challenge piece, and it seemed to accentuate our individual and group skills.
Hi guys! So it is April now and we've had quite a bit of fun over Spring Break! We consulted and decided it was best not to perform this month... probably because we would be in Washington D.C. and New York over Spring Break and performance date. We went on an educational trip on America's history and had a lot have fun doing so. It was a lot of walking, but definitely worth it. If you have any comments about it or are interested about the trip, comment, this post is just a filler for this month, our next and FINAL performance date is May 2nd and we hope to see you there! Bye!
Hello everyone! We have put in lots of time and effort this month to give a great performance to the seniors. At our March performance we played Nearer my God to Thee by Sarah Flower Adams and Sonatina by C.W. Shrum. We ended our performance with Corrente by Corelli along with some information about the author and the era in which the song was composed in. We look forward to our next performance and are hoping to see you there!
Hey guys! We are back and have are priorities straight. We have been a little mixed up lately with our performances and timing, but we have figured it all out and are going to have a great March display! In January Jennifer and Ashley worked on speaking out more often than Alyssa, who is less shy at talking to others than us two. We have also been working on our flats and sharps in music to perfect the songs we play for the seniors. We have placed flyers around town and would love to have you join us at Samaritan Bethany at our next play date, March 7th. Ciao!-Musicinspireseniors
